It’s nice to see more and more accessible picnic tables in our local parks!
This summer I’ve noticed them at various locations on the Dartmouth waterfront and most recently at Beach Meadows down Liverpool, Nova Scotia way.
When I mentioned this to him, it came much to the delight of Halifax radio legend Jerry Lawrence who has spent most of his life in a wheel chair.

I worked with Jer Bear in the 80’s and 90’s and many times helped him get in and out of the studios and to his car.
I met up with Jerry last week, he’s 82 and still goin’ strong and STILL full of one liners…
Jerry Lawrence Park, named after The Bear, out my way in Lewis Lake, has fully accessible picnic tables as well as a wharf for those in wheelchairs to experience catching the big one!

Hopefully we will see more of these accessible picnic tables appearing in Nova Scotia to include everyone.
