More backlash from the Black community over the appointment of a white MLA to represent their interests.
Three groups have signed a letter to Tim Houston calling the lack of representation from their community an act of “anti-black racism and white supremacy.”
They include the Association of Black Social Workers, Health Association of African Canadians, and African United Baptist Association of Nova Scotia.
The groups criticize the appointment of Pat Dunn to African Nova Scotian Affairs as well as the removal of Kesa Munroe-Anderson, who is Black, as the deputy minister of the portfolio.
The letter follows an online meeting with 200 community members who brought forward urgent issues they want government to address.
It says the community feels disrespected by the lack of representation.
“Our organizations have received numerous calls of concern from community members,” the letter says. “Our communities have felt re-traumatized, disrespected, disappointed and ignored by your actions.”
They’re demanding a meeting with the premier ahead of the fall sitting of the legislature.
Both Houston and Dunn have said they’re committed to the community and their concerns.
