The owners of the Wooden Monkey restaurant in Halifax say the business will not tolerate “abusive behaviour” from anti-maskers.
The business has posted a signed letter to Facebook detailing a scene between protestors and staff over the weekend.
The statement says the protestors came from a rally on Sunday. One was held at Citadel Hill against public health measures and Nova Scotia’s vaccine policy, which kicked off on Monday.
The owners say staff were yelled at and threatened.
“You should be ashamed of yourselves,” the statement says. “Our staff are hardworking and dedicated people who come to work and follow public health orders as required by law. Your actions were hurtful and frightening.”
The owners want to know why the protestors just wouldn’t wear their masks.
The restaurant vows to continue to follow all mandates put out by public health to help curb the spread of COVID-19 and keep everyone safe.
The owners recommend protestors find more appropriate ways of expressing their views on these safety measures.
“Take your political issues up with the people that make those rules, leave our staff and restaurants alone,” the letter says. “We follow public health guidelines and will continue to do so. Your behaviour today will not change anything.”
The Wooden Monkey adds they just want staff and all patrons to be healthy and safe.
“Please stay safe, and please be kind.”
