William Sandeson is taking up his latest bid for bail with the province’s top court.
The 28-year-old saw his third application for bail denied by a Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice during a hearing in Halifax last week.
The former Dalhousie University med-school student is awaiting his second trial on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of Taylor Samson.
Samson, a fellow Dal student, was last seen entering Sandeson’s apartment in Halifax in August 2015. His body has never been found.
In the notice filed with the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal this week, Sandeson is asking for the decision on his bail to be overturned.
He’s calling for his release, arguing by the time his second trial starts he would have served more than seven years in prison.
Sandeson was convicted of first-degree murder in 2017.
The conviction was overturned two years later with the new trial set for 2023.
