The new Tory government is promising to hit net zero emissions by 2050.
They laid out 28 goals in the Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act tabled Wednesday.
Goals include increasing power generated from renewable sources to 80 per cent, and having 30 per cent of new car sales be from electric vehicles, by 2030.
Tim Halman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, said they’ve set the most aggressive 2030 greenhouse gas emission reduction target in the country, 53 per cent below 2005 levels.
“We are at a pivotal moment,” he said. “This legislation will showcase Nova Scotia as a world leader in adopting and achieving bold environmental goals.”
Conservation targets are also being expanded, up to protection for 20 per cent of the province’s land and water.
