A grim pandemic milestone for the world.
More than 5 million people around the globe have died from COVID-19 as of Monday morning.
That is according to data held by Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.
It reports more than 197,000 people have died of COVID worldwide in the past 28 days.
Last week, Nova Scotia recorded the province’s 100th death connected to the virus.
Officials said a woman in her 70s had passed away in the Western health zone.
Since the virus was first detected in China in late 2019, the centre has registered more than 246 million coronavirus cases.
