A community centre in Shelburne County has been fined nearly $12,000 for failing to comply with COVID-19 restrictions.
Residents complained to Barrington RCMP on October 20th that the centre on Highway 3 in Woods Harbour was not abiding by health restrictions, and failing to enforce proof of vaccination or masking requirements while hosting events.
Police say they followed up by speaking with management, and educating them on restrictions.
A few days later, RCMP attended a Halloween craft fair at the centre, and found numerous people were not wearing masks, and that no one was checking for proof of vaccination.
RCMP say organizers were under the assumption from the community centre that health restrictions would not be enforced.
The fair was permitted to continue after police educated the organizers on restrictions.
Last week, police served the community centre with a summary offence ticket for failing to abide by restrictions.
