A pastor is calling the COVID-19 outbreak in Nova Scotia’s northern health zone “unfortunate,” but part of God’s plan.
Health officials have linked the spike in cases along with three deaths to a faith-based gathering held last month.
Two of those deaths have been at the long-term care home in Pugwash where 29 residents and 10 staff have tested positive.
The third death was at a group home in Amherst.
The Gospel Light Baptist Church in Amherst hosted the gathering involving various faith groups from across the province.
Attendees were not asked to provide proof of vaccination.
In the livestream of his Sunday sermon, Pastor Robert Smith said he is not ashamed as it was a great week of meetings.
That video has since been removed.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang has said he would speak with faith leaders to clarify the rules around gatherings.
Dr. Strang and Premier Tim Houston are set to provide a COVID-19 update at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
