You don’t have much time to swap your umbrella for a shovel.
The Halifax region remains under a rainfall warning with up to 20 mm expected before things wind down around noon on Thursday.
A reminder if you’re driving the downpours may have caused flooding and water to pool on the roads.
Meantime, the city is expected to get hit with a blast of winter on Friday.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for significant snow, blowing snow, and wind.
It predicts the snowfall will begin Friday afternoon with up to 10 cm expected.
The national weather forecaster cautions the system’s track can still shift, impacting snow and rainfall amounts.
“Precipitation will begin as snow during the day Friday but there are some indications that a mix or changeover to rain could occur over eastern regions of the province, as well as much of the Atlantic coast, whereas inland regions could remain entirely snow,” the special weather statement says. “Even a slight deviation in the track of the storm could impact snowfall amounts in these areas.”
Winter Storm watches are in effect for central and northern regions of the province including the Annapolis Valley and the northwestern half of Cape Breton Island.
