CUPE Nova Scotia is calling on the province to protect public school workers with N95 masks.
President Nan McFadgen says if other provinces can secure the highly sought-after mask, so can Nova Scotia.
“If other provinces can get them for education sector workers, why can’t Nova Scotia?” asks CUPE Nova President Nan McFadgen in a news release. “It’s the same virus in all the provinces.”
The union believes the upgrade is needed especially now that the federal mask guidelines have changed.
“With increased concern about the aerosol spread of COVID-19, the new guidance recommends that properly fitting N-95s should be worn in indoor occupational settings (in a school setting that would include buses),” the news release says.
Students returned to online learning on Monday morning after an extended holiday break.
The province says it’s working to secure rapid tests, masks, and to make ventilation upgrades before students head back to classrooms on Monday.
