Fredericton, New Brunswick’s hockey legend Willie O’Ree has his number 22 retired last night at the Boston Bruins game.
The 86 year old Hockey Hall of Famer became the first Black person to play in the National Hockey League in his debut game against the Montreal Canadiens on January 18th, 1958.
Willie participated virtually on “Willie O’Ree Day” from his home in San Diego because of the pandemic.
