“Live at 5” turned 40 yesterday!
Since making its debut on September 13th, 1982, the show has become a Maritime tradition at suppertime keeping our three provinces connected.
There’s been just eleven hosts on the show over 40 years including in the early years Dave Wright, Steve Murphy, then Nancy Regan, Paul Mennier, Starr Cunningham, Bruce Frisko and more, including todays hosts Maria Panopalis and Jayson Baxter.
It was great to see special guests appearances from previous hosts returning last night.
Viewers once thought that Paul Mennier and Nancy Regan were married!

One of the first female hosts of “Live at 5” was Laura Lee Langley originally from Sydney who joined Steve Murphy on the show in 1985.
Laura Lee and Debi Forsyth-Smith in the 1980’s blazed the trail for future female anchors to come in what was then a male dominated era.

Laura Lee actually trained me at my first radio job in April 1984 at CKPE-FM “Cape Country” in Sydney.
To say that I’m proud of her is an understatement, she was a very patient radio teacher to a 17-year-old me in high school.
Happy 40th “Live at 5” – here’s to another 40!
