Merriam-Webster has announced “they” is the word of the year.
The American-English dictionary revealed the 2019 list saying the personal pronoun was looked up 313% more this year than last.
Look-ups are often driven by news events, which explains why “quid-pro-quo” and “impeach” are also on this year’s list of words.
