Nova Scotia’s top doctor is commenting on the increase of respiratory illnesses.
At a media availability this morning Dr. Robert Strang discussed the current situation with the flu.
“Influenza season has come much earlier than usual this year. We’re about four weeks into our flu season and an average flu season lasts about eight to 10 weeks, so even in the best case we will still have a number of weeks of significant influenza.”
He adds while we are still seeing a lot of respiratory illness, COVID-19 activity is low.
Strang discussed the impact it’s having on the healthcare system.
“We certainly have a system that for lots of other long standing reasons is very stretched but then you add on the surge of, not just influenza, but RSV you certainly put lots of pressure, with young kids, on our pediatric system.”
