Subdivisions in HRM need more exit routes, according to Councilor Pam Lovelace, and she’s calling on the Premier to make it happen.
In a letter written to the Houston government Lovelace says during the wildfires they did an outstanding job operationally. However, with 16,400 people who were evacuated, subdivisions in HRM need more exit routes to be prepared for an emergency.
Lovelace says Nova Scotia Public Works has been approving subdivisions without proper exit routes since the 1970’s and doing so, the government is ignoring community safety. Especially when a community only has one road to get in or out.
In the letter, Lovelace says, a housing crisis should not be the excuse to intentional harm to neighborhoods by ignoring safety requirements. She is requesting the Premier to acknowledge the PC’s failures to provide community safety and to fund connector roads.
