Today is the one year anniversary of the tragic fire on Quartz St. in Spryfield that claimed the lives of the seven Barho children.
Last night, neighbours gathered where the Barho home once stood to grieve, they laid down flowers and stuffed toys. They also released seven balloons into the air to memorialize the Barho children.
The parents of seven children who died in a Halifax house fire a year ago are offering thanks to the public for the love and support they’ve received since the tragedy.
“We would like to offer our deepest gratitude to the thousands of Nova Scotians who have shown us their love and support over this past year,” the couple said in a statement released Tuesday through the office of Halifax MP Andy Fillmore. “The loss is immense, and we miss our children every day.”
The Barhos said they had managed to find comfort in the kindness of strangers, the courage of first responders and in the dedication of health-care professionals, as well as “the sense of belonging offered to us by this community.”
The community is encouraged to leave out bears to honour the children on this one year anniversary of one of the saddest days in Halifax history.
