We’ve had a lot of rain in 2023.
Some areas of Cape Breton received over 100 millimetres between Sunday and Tuesday morning.
Is it unusual to have this much rain this time of year?
Environment Canada meteorologist Bob Robichaud says the fall months produce more of these weather systems.
“What happened over the weekend was a system approached from the south and slowed down as it went over Eastern Nova Scotia. It produced a lot of rainfall Sunday into Monday night,” said Robichaud.
Another system is coming on the weekend, but he says it’s a typical pattern for the fall.
Robichaud said water levels in lakes slowly receded in September from all the summer rainfall.
When it comes to hurricane season, we’re not officially out of the woods yet.
Robichaud says we’ve have had some significant October storms before.
“I can think of Sandy in 2012, that occurred the day before Halloween. Noel was an impactful storm in Eastern Canada, and that occurred on November 4th.”
He says he’s not ready to give the all clear yet, but usually after Remembrance Day things officially calm down.
