Halifax Mooseheads goalie Mathis Rousseau scored a “goalie goal” back on Friday night and the place went nuts late in the third period.
This was a first in the Mooseheads 30 year franchise history!
“Rooster” as his teammates and fans call him, got a standing ovation and chants of “Rousseau Rousseau, Rousseau!”
I spoke with Mooseheads photographer Trevor MacMillan about his picture that he captured and he told me he shot the above picture from the Zamboni entrance and it just worked out that he had a clear path to Rousseau’s celebration.

The Halifax Mooseheads beat the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 6-4 on Friday in Moose Country. Jordan Dumais also returned from the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets to score a hat-trick for his season debut.
It was a night to remember in Moose Country for the 7,562 fans in the stands that will be talked about for generations.
At the Mooseheads and Val-d’Or game when the Moose won 5-1 on Saturday, with a couple of minutes left, the Moose fans started chanting to the Val-d’Or coaches to “PULL THE GOALIE!” “PULL THE GOALIE!” to give Mathis a shot at back-to-back “Goalie Goals”, it didn’t happen.
The Herd hosts Moncton this Wednesday at 7 here in Moose country, see ya there.
