I was sad to hear of the passing of my friend Frank Cameron on Saturday afternoon, ironically on “National DJ Day.”
I was lucky to work with Frank at Oldies 96 CHNS, as a kid who grew up in Cape Breton, I couldn’t believe I was working with “THEE” Frank Cameron. We had so many great chats and laughs, and some days we didn’t get much work done.

(I love this pic above:. At CHNS-CHFX, Frank always played Santa. This was 2002, Drake was 7, Trent was 3. Driving home from the kids Christmas party Drake said: “That wasn’t the real Santa, that was Frank.”
)

Frank taught us in the bizz a lot. It’s “zero” not “owe”, it’s “kill-owe-meter” not “kill-omm-maw-ter” and it’s “temperature” not “tempa-chur.”
He had a radio career that started in 1955 in high school and went until last year in 2023 when he retired at age 84 from Seaside FM in Eastern Passage, imagine, 68 years on-air!
Here are a few pictures from his book “I Owe It All To Rock & Roll”

(Above: the cover of Franks 2015 book, many of the funny stories he shares with me when we worked together are captured in this book.)

(Above: A Frank’s Bandstand poster.)

(Above: What a bunch of legends in this pic including Pat Connolly who I worked 12 Mooseheads seasons with. I remember Rube Hornstein doing the weather with a chalk board. Don Tremaine, Ron Hill and Frank. A part of the Maritimes fabric.)

(Above: I would not go to bed until Frank and Doug did their comedy routine at the end of The Maritimes Tonight. The one with Frank washing the dishes, the satellite dishes, was the hilarious!)

(Above: Frank on September 12, 2021 speaking at Wayne Harrett’s Celebration of Life.)

Frank set an example in broadcasting for us all to follow, to just had fun everyday.
Here’s Frank on CBC in 1990:
Thanks for blazing the trail my friend, you’ll be missed on the Halifax airwaves.
