It looks like there could be some fans allowed in the stands at Halifax Mooseheads games this season.
Mooseheads President Brian Urquhart says the team remains in close contact with government health and safety officials with a hope of finalizing a protocol in the next week to 10 days to follow detailed social distancing guidelines.
What will it look like in the rink? Well it will include leaving every second row empty, wearing masks when not seated, restricted access to common areas and spacing between occupied seats. Some fans will be permitted to sit in limited bubbles with a regular group of people.
Fans will also be expected to stay in their seats unless they are using the washroom or at a concession stand. All food and drinks will have to be consumed while seated. Aisle seats will be unavailable, the concourse will not be used for gatherings and foot traffic must flow in specified directions.
The guidelines for the Mooseheads and Cape Breton Eagles remain a work in progress.
QMJHL teams in New Brunswick got clearance from their governing bodies back on Monday to announce details of home attendance requirements for the 2020-21 regular season. The protocols for the Bathurst Titan, Moncton Wildcats and Saint John Sea Dogs are different in minor ways but the broader social distancing rules are fairly consistent rink to rink.
The league is planning to open on October 1st. for the regular season. QMJHL training camps open on Sunday and the first pre-season games are September 1st. Fans will not be permitted at any of those events. Mooseheads players have been in Halifax under quarantine since last weekend.
Hopefully the puck will drop soon here in Moose Country!
