First stifling heat and now parts of the Maritimes are going to get soaked by heavy rain associated with Beryl.
Environment Canada says it’s due to a disorganized weather system containing moisture from remnants of the storm which made landfall as a hurricane in Texas this week.
According to special weather statements, the western half of Cape Breton, southern New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island could see significant rainfall and heavy downpours Thursday.
As well, rainfall warnings have been issued for central and southern NB and Prince County, PEI with 40-80 mm possible.
The national forecaster advises that similar storms in the past have caused localized flooding, especially in poor drainage areas, and road shoulder erosion and washouts.
Meanwhile a heat warning remains in effect for areas of Nova Scotia Thursday and likely Friday.
Temperatures could reach nearly 30 in Antigonish, Pictou and Colchester counties, but it will feel closer to 40 with the humidity.
