A gas leak in Dartmouth that forced some people to evacuate their homes is now under control.
Eastward Energy said the gas line on Monique Avenue has “been effectively pinched off.”
“There is no current threat to public safety,” the company wrote on X.
“Our crews, in collaboration with Halifax Fire, remain on-site to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to restore the area.”
Leak contained before emergency alert
Halifax police and fire crews were on the scene of the leak, which happened around noon on Tuesday.
Monique Avenue, which sits between Farthington Place and Leaman Drive, was closed. There was an evacuation order in the area, including nearby Monique Avenue, Leaman Drive and True North Crescent.
Eastward Energy posted on social media that they had pinched off the gas leak at about 12:50 p.m. They said they would stay on-site to make sure the area was safe.
An emergency alert went out at about 1:20 p.m.
But then the company posted at 1:35 p.m. that the leak was fully contained and there was no threat to public safety.
Another emergency alert, this time lifting the evacuation order, was sent at about 2 p.m.
At about the same time, the company posted to clarify that they did not issue the emergency alert.
“Our team, in collaboration with Halifax Fire, had successfully contained the situation prior to the alert being issued. We want to assure you that our crews, alongside Halifax Fire, are still on-site, diligently working to implement all necessary measures to restore the area.”
