Guysborough-Tracadie MLA Greg Morrow calls better cell phone service a game changer.
In July, the provincial government announced an additional investment of $18.6 million in the Cellular for Nova Scotia Program,
Nine new towers will be constructed in Larrys River, Indian Harbour Lake, Giants Lake, Ecum Secum, Erinville, New Harbour West, Port Felix, St. Francis Harbour, and West Liscombe over the next two years.
Nova Scotia is contracting Rogers to upgrade infrastructure at 27 existing sites in the province and connect them to its 5G network.
Twenty-seven new towers will also be built in areas throughout the province without cell phone coverage.
Morrow states, “This project will have an incredible impact on residents in our rural communities. Increased cellular service means greater convenience and safety for Nova Scotians and I’m proud that our government is making this historic investment to address this long-standing need.”
There are about 20,000 unserved civic addresses and 1,010 kilometres of unserved primary roads in Nova Scotia.
The province says the first four towers will be in place next spring, with the remaining new and upgraded sites in place between next summer and the spring of 2027
