The world watched in horror as the 9-11 terrorist attacks unfolded in the United States twenty-three years ago.
On the morning of September 11th, 2001, terrorists from al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial airplanes, deliberately crashing two into the Twin Towers and one into the Pentagon.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed, including four Canadians.
Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador provided refuge for grounded planes while the U.S. airspace was closed.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston says, “Let us honour the memory of the victims, express gratitude to the first responders, and recommit ourselves to building a safer, more peaceful World.”
Twenty-three years ago, the world was forever changed by the tragic events of September 11, 2001. As we reflect on this solemn anniversary, let us remember the thousands of lives lost, including 24 Canadians. Nova Scotia played a unique role during this time, serving as a refuge… pic.twitter.com/Trn1RftGFU
