Have you been wondering what’s being built on Highway 103 by the Sobeys and McDonald’s in Timberlea?
Well, it’s not a new Costco that was being rumoured, it’s actually going to be the new home of the Mayflower Curling Club.
The new Nova Scotia Centre for Curling Excellence Facility will be the brand-new home of the club that will open a year from now in September 2025.
The province put $3 million towards its construction, with the total cost of the project is $22 million.
The original Mayflower Curling Club was founded in 1905 and has been on Monaghan Drive by the post office in the north end of Halifax since 1962.
The very first curling club was actually temporary morgue for victims of the Titanic in 1912 before it was destroyed by the Halifax Explosion five years later on December 6th, 1917.
I recall when I had a DJ business in the 1990’s lugging my gear up those stairs to the party room at the one on Monaghan… That was a workout!
So, hurry hard for curling to Timberlea starting next fall.
