You know the “Battle on the boards and the puck comes loose, defence falls back, but it’s just no use, chargin’ up the wings turnin’ on the juice, slapshot, shoot score, ya just can’t stop the Mooooose!”
Well, according to Matt McKnight, former Marketing Director for the Mooseheads, this is what he had to say when I recently reached out to him in Florida where he now calls home.
“Hey Ian, As far as that jingle is concerned, I had a professional jingle writer create that. I think he was out of Toronto at the time. But I have no idea what the name of the company was. He had done some tunes for other teams and leagues and some contact I had from another league put me touch. Would have been probably second or third year we had that produced.”
So since then, the Mooseheads jingle has been played thousands and thousands of times here in Moose Country at the rink and on the radio.

My son Drake when he was 4 sang the jingle at family reunion talent show.
Today, the jingle gets played after the Mooseheads score a goal, so let’s hope we hear it lots tomorrow night when the Herd hosts the Saint John Sea Dogs are here in Moose Country battling for that last playoff spot in the QMJHL.
The home and home series starts tonight in the Port City in New Brunswick.
Thanks to Matt McKnight for the jingle story and thanks for hiring me on June 23rd, 1997, as the Halifax Mooseheads Public Address Announcer.

This gig has led to so much like announcing many NHL preseason games, the 2003 World Juniors, 2004 World Women’s Hockey Championship, two Memorial Cups and has since led to becoming the Halifax Thunderbirds Announcer in the National Lacrosse League. (And even The Ultimate Hockey Joke Book Laugh Your Faceoff.)
Thank you again, Matt for taking a chance on this radio guy 1,150 Mooseheads games later.
Here it is to sing along to:
Go Moose Go!
