Governor General Mary Simon has made 83 new appointments in recognition of contributions to Canadians. It is one of our country’s highest honours.
Evolutionary and molecular biologist Ford Doolittle of Halifax is appointed as a companion.
Four Haligonians are appointed as members: J. Michael Macdonald, the province’s former chief of justice and chair of Phoenix youth programs; Ronald Joseph Bourgeois, a multidisciplinary artist dedicated to promoting Acadian culture; George Rodger who has shaped the YMCA across Canada; and Sharon Ross for her commitment to social advocacy and inclusion.
From Kentville, scholar Elizabeth Epperly, who has elevated studies in the works of Lucy Maud Montgomery, is also appointed as a member.

Meanwhile, singer-songwriter Heather Rankin from Cape Breton was appointed as an officer in December and will be invested during a Canada Day ceremony in Ottawa.
