The municipality will open up pools, splash pads, beaches, and rec centres just in time to help Nova Scotians beat the summer heat.
The Captain William Spry and the Sackville Sports Stadium pools will open on Thursday, while the Needham pool will open Saturday as renovation work continues.
The Bedford outdoor pool will open on Canada Day after being closed last summer. The Cole Harbour outdoor pool and splash pad will delay opening until mid-July due to renovation work, while the Halifax Common Pool is being assessed.
Several splash pads are already welcoming residents back, including Bayers-Westwood, George Dixon Centre, Isleville Street, Westmount, and Sackville (Kinsman). The Halifax Common splash pad launches on July 1st.
Registration for aquatic programming will begin at 10 a.m. on June 23. Programs will be offered at both indoor and outdoor pools. Supervised beaches will have swimming lessons.
The summer season for municipal beaches is July 1 to August 31. Municipal staff regularly test the water quality for bacteria levels at all supervised municipal beaches, as well as one unsupervised beach (Malay Falls).
There is currently a water advisory in effect for Grand Lake (including Oakfield Beach).
Municipally operated recreation centres will reopen Thursday except for the Sheet Harbour Recreation Centre and equipment lending at the Emera Oval. Those services will resume on Monday.
Membership fees will automatically reactivate upon reopening.
