The premier still isn’t giving an indication of when he’ll call an election, despite filling Liberal ranks across the province.
Iain Rankin must drop the writ by spring 2022 and the Liberal party is running what appear to be election ads.
At the same time, most riding associations have named their candidates.
“I think it’s a positive thing that there’s so many Nova Scotians, women and men from all over the province, that are stepping up,” he says. “That want to run for a government that has handled the pandemic very well.”
Rankin’s Liberals lost their majority following the departure of former premier Stephen MacNeil and veteran MLA Margaret Miller from the legislature.
Nine Liberal MLAs have announced they will not run under Iain Rankin in the next contest.
Rankin again deflected questions about when exactly he plans to call an election, speaking briefly to reporters after a cabinet meeting Thursday.
“We’re still very much in that reopening phase and so, as I said last time, my focus is the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Rankin did say, however, he looks forward to going to the polls “at some point.”
