A $13 million investment from the federal government will bring 43 new affordable homes to the Halifax area.
Federal Social Development Minister Ahmed Hussen made the announcement at City Hall on Wednesday morning along with Halifax MP Andy Fillmore and Mayor Mike Savage.
“Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home,” Hussen said in a news release. “Today’s funding through the Rapid Housing Initiative will go a long way to support those who need it most by quickly providing nearly 43 new affordable homes for vulnerable individuals and families in Halifax to keep them safe. This is one of the ways our National Housing Strategy continues to ensure no one is left behind.”
Government says this housing will help residents who are in uncertain housing situations, experiencing or at risk of homelessness, or living in temporary shelters because of the pandemic
The money is being delivered under the expanded Rapid Housing Initiative.
It’s in addition to the federal government’s previous investment of $8.7 million to help create 52 housing units in Halifax under the initiative’s first phase.
