A warm welcome for a Halifax-based naval ship is being called off on Monday morning due to a case of COVID-19.
The Department of National Defence has issued a news release saying a navy member on HMCS Halifax has tested positive.
The sailor does not have symptoms, and they’re isolating. No other positive cases have been identified.
HMCS Halifax is set to arrive at the HMC Dockyard on Monday morning.
The Canadian Armed Forces says the crew will remain on the ship to allow for further testing and to ensure the health and safety of sailors and their families.
A decision regarding the next steps will be made by Maritime Forces Atlantic and provincial health officials.
A homecoming was planned to welcome the crew following a 6-month overseas deployment with NATO’s Operation Reassurance.
